12 - The Heroine Unleashed!

COMMENTARY: Another little gimmick I can utilize for "significant moments"... double-size pages! Actually, this was born out of necessity... I wasn't happy with the results I was getting when I tried to cram the transformation sequence and a good dramatic "first look" at Our Heroine into the confines of a single strip. So I had three options: a) put the second half of the transformation/presentation strip into its own installment and number it 13 (I hated this option because the story already divides out into a nice round 90 strips, and suddenly having 91 strips just wasn't appealing); b) put the second half of the transformation/presentation strip into its own installment, but number it 12b, and number the first half 12a (this seemed a little clumsy as well, since both parts have to form one scene), or c) put both halves onto the same page. As you can see, I opted for c). Breaking the format of the page adds a bit more drama to the moment, I think. And, like adding color, it's another trick I can pull out to draw more attention to the aforementioned "significant moments".

Boy, that purple lettering is all too appropriate for that last caption, ain't it? :-)
