I believe this is the first holiday-themed picture I've ever done for public consumption; it was posted to my update blog and the Amaz0ns forum. (I did a special "Satin Steele" Christmas card about ten years ago for friends and associates, the art for which I just recently found and will post this coming Christmas, other than these I haven't done any holiday-themed art.)

The holiday season of 2005 is the first I'd become aware of a song that's apparently been around for a couple of decades; it's called "Mele Kalikimaka" and the version I became aware of is Jimmy Buffet's rendition. Jimmy Buffett

"Mele kalikimaka" is the thing to say/On a bright Hawaiian Christmas Day goes the first line of the lyrics. This song, along with a cartoon image of a hula dancer I clipped out of a newspaper ad some months before, combined to inspire the picture above. (The hula drawing also provided the pose.) Since I'd already suggested Tetsuko's interest in belly-dancing it didn't seem such a stretch that she could also dance a fair hula.

So now I'm trying to decide what I'm going to do for the holidays this year.
